Tooth Replacement Options: Five Clinical Paths Compared

What tooth replacement options can restore missing teeth?

Five common paths are dental implants, bridges, full dentures, partial dentures, and implant-supported dentures. Choice depends on bone volume, how many teeth are missing, bite forces, and maintenance preference. At Trust Dental Care, planning starts with imaging and a written restorative sequence—not a one-line price.

Tooth replacement options are the restorative paths clinicians use when one or more teeth are missing. I’m Dr. Cirenia Aparicio Miranda, DDS. Patients traveling from the San Diego area often arrive with a printed quote and one question: which modality fits this bite, bone, and maintenance preference—not which slogan sounds strongest.

This guide compares five clinical paths—dental implants, dental bridges, traditional full dentures, partial dentures, and implant-supported dentures—using fee-list anchors from our published dental prices in Tijuana list. For general patient education on implants as a category, see the ADA MouthHealthy overview of dental implants.

How clinicians choose among tooth replacement options

At Trust Dental Care, selection is not a menu order. Under my review, planning typically sequences CBCT or indicated imaging, clinical exam of remaining teeth and gums, then a written surgical–restorative plan that labels each line item (placement vs abutment vs crown vs package). Bone volume, periodontal status, bite forces, how many teeth are missing, and whether you prefer fixed or removable maintenance all matter before any fee is finalized.

That imaging-first sequence is our proprietary workflow for missing teeth replacement cases: we do not treat a single fee as a substitute for a restorative roadmap. Individual plans vary after exam.

Our clinic protocol (how I plan your case): When indicated, I order or review a CBCT so we can see bone height, width, and proximity to nerves or sinuses before recommending implant placement versus a bridge or removable prosthesis. I then examine remaining teeth, gum health, and ridge shape in person. Only after that do I issue a written plan that separates surgical placement line items from prosthetic line items—exactly as they appear on our fee list—so you can see what is included before travel. This sequencing is how we avoid mixing a placement-only figure with a finished-tooth expectation.

Dental implants (single-tooth path)

Dental implants are titanium posts placed in the jaw to anchor a prosthetic tooth. When bone and health allow, they help preserve bone by transmitting chewing load after osseointegration—outcomes still depend on healing, hygiene, and case selection.

Clinically, I look at whether the site can accept a fixture without compromising adjacent roots or sinus floors, and whether the opposing bite will overload a single restored tooth. If grafting is indicated, that is sequenced and labeled separately on the plan rather than buried inside a vague “implant price.” Timing between placement and the final crown follows healing—not a one-size visit calendar.

On our fee list, label the lines carefully:

  • Dental Implant (Placement Only) from $799 — the surgical fixture, not the finished tooth
  • Implant Abutment from $399 and Implant Crown from $650 — separate restorative components
  • Full Dental Implant card from $1,999 — package-style restored tooth when that card applies

A placement-only fee is never the same as a finished crown on an implant. Your written plan states which lines are included.

Dental bridges

Dental bridges span a gap by linking a prosthetic tooth to crowns on adjacent abutment teeth. They often involve less surgical time than implants, but they require preparing neighboring teeth and depend on those teeth remaining healthy long-term.

I recommend bridges when abutment teeth already need crowns or when imaging shows bone that is not favorable for implant placement without extensive grafting the patient prefers to defer. The trade-off is irreversible reduction of those abutments and the need for excellent hygiene under the pontic. Fee-list anchor: Dental Bridges from $1,950. Long-term cost depends on how abutment teeth respond over years and whether the bridge eventually needs replacement—not on a single visit comparison alone.

Traditional full dentures

Traditional full dentures are removable prostheses supported by gums and remaining ridge anatomy. They restore appearance and basic function for a complete arch without implant surgery, with adaptation and occasional relines as tissues change.

For some patients—especially those who want to avoid surgery or need a faster prosthetic path—a well-made full denture remains a sound option. Ridge shape and saliva patterns influence retention; that is why try-ins and follow-up adjustments matter more than a brochure photo. Fee-list anchor: Removable Full Denture $600. See also our dentures in Tijuana overview for process context.

Partial dentures

Partial dentures replace several missing teeth while clasping or otherwise engaging remaining teeth. They are removable, typically faster to deliver than implant sequences, and useful when implants are not indicated or staged later.

Partials also serve as interim solutions while bone heals after extractions or while implant stages are planned. Design must protect remaining teeth from overload; that assessment is part of the same exam–imaging–written-plan sequence above. Fee-list anchor: Removable Partial Denture $499.

Implant-supported dentures and full-arch packages

Implant-supported dentures secure a denture with implants—ranging from removable overdentures to fixed full-arch bridges. These are not the same as a traditional tissue-supported denture, and they are not priced as a single “$2,500 complete set” on our fee list.

Published full-arch package anchors:

Custom overdentures still need a consult quote because attachment systems and conversion steps vary. Bone grafting, when indicated, is listed separately (from $399 on the fee list).

How to read U.S. vs Tijuana quotes

U.S. retail quotes for implants, bridges, and dentures vary widely by city, specialist, and what the quote bundles. Treat any out-of-state number as a figure to verify against line items—not as a universal price. We do not publish guaranteed “percent savings” versus U.S. averages; compare labeled fee-list lines and written plans instead.

Minutes from San Diego border crossings, many patients bring prior imaging or quotes so we can map them to our sequence. Geography alone does not determine quality—diagnosis, materials, and a written plan do.

Next step

If you are comparing tooth replacement options before travel, start with imaging needs and a written restorative sequence. Review current figures on our dental prices in Tijuana fee list, then request your personalized treatment plan so placement, abutments, crowns, or packages are labeled before you book.

Frequently Asked Questions

Implants when bone and health allow; bridges or partials when implants are not indicated. Final choice follows exam and imaging.

No. $799 is placement-only on the fee list; abutment and crown are separate line items. The full restored tooth card starts from $1,999 when that package applies.

Full-arch implant packages are listed as All-on-4/6/8 complete packages ($10,499 / $13,499 / $15,699). Overdentures need a custom quote after consult.

Bridges start from $1,950 on our fee list; long-term costs depend on adjacent teeth and replacement cycles. Implants and bridges solve different clinical problems.

Written plan, imaging needs, which line items are included, and current fee-list figures—not a single marketing price.

Removable partial denture $499; removable full denture $600 on the published fee list.
